James (Jim) was born and raised on a farm in Northwest Iowa, while growing up and in school he spent a lot of time learning different construction trades and building homes. After gradution from South Dakota State Univeristy earning a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, he retuned to Northwest Iowa and worked twelve years at an electric motor company where he spent time in engineering, sales, and manufacturing. Jim enjoys getting a few rounds of golf in during the warmer months and vacationing with his wife, Teresa, and their Old English Sheepdog, Moose.
Dale founded James Steel Erection, which is now James Steel, in 1976. Together with his wife, Deb, they started their first shop in Lesterville, SD. Today, James Steel has relocated to neighboring Yankton, SD, and has grown into a family business that is the largest pre-engineered builder in the Midwest. Dale received the Varco Pruden Buildings Legends Steel award in 2006. He is also an avid sportsman. He has traveled to Africa, Australia, South America, Canada, and many states in the US. He has quite the collection of animals and loves to share his experiences with others. The James family also raises quarter horses and has been very successful in their competitions. With one of their horse, Turnbow Tyree, earning 362 AQHA points in 18 months Halter, Calf Roping, Heading, and Heeling.
